Sept 28, 2013, from New Roads, Louisiana to Farmington, Missouri, along the Mississippi river

The day starts with a hearty breakfast prepared by Pat. THANKS A LOT, even if you are the one taking the photo... whereas you deserve to be on it!

BIG NEWS TODAY AROUND 8.00 AM
ANTOINE IS BORN TODAY
here the message Annelies sent me on my mobile phone!!!!!             with the details below

On the way from Mack and Pat's home to the airfield, we see huge fields of sugar cane, being processed. The cutting machine blows cane into a trailer.
These trailers will then unload into large trucks which deliver the sugar cane to a processing plant.

At the airport, we say goodbye to Mack and Pat

Mack films the take off from New Roads, louisiana, and the fly by...at 1000 ft over the field!! (almost 1000 ft...)

The Mississippi will be under us for the next few hours, on our way north

huge barges, here carrying coal, are pushing their "floating containers" up and down the river

at some point, the "floating containers" reach their destinations and are parked along the river for loading or unloading

we can see from the air a line of trucks, tiny points at the bottom of the photo, waiting to load or unload goods who have previously been transshipped from the barges into silos

no insult to Roger, it just happens we fly over "his" field

No fires in sight, luckily

we are able to fly low along the Mississippi river just on the boundary of Memphis, Tennessee
with a nice view of downtown.

Farming is nicely organized

Runways are if all sizes. Here the airport of Helena, Arkansas, where runway 16-34 is in use, and 04-22 in construction. It should become a 6.000 ft runway when ready
and here a "short" 4.000 ft runway in Fulton, Kentucky

Fields are set on fire

and chicken grow in these factories

we land in Farmington, Missouri, KFAM, much later than we expected to arrive according to our plan.
It is getting late, soon sunset, and rain is forecast for the evening, we decide to call it a day.
We are given one of the KFAM, Farmington, Missouri, courtesy cars, and drive into town to our hotel, after having refueled our airplane with 100 LL at 5.19 USD/Gallon. Note the car plate of the courtesy car, showing the ICAO code for the airport.
Shortly thereafter we "land" at the Restaurant 12 down the road from our hotel, for a well deserved dinner. Temperatures are still in the low 80's (around 25 C for the europeans, late in the evening)

the smoke from Werner's cigar is not visible from this photo.
Next morning we drive the car back to the airport, and see on e a few ALDI shops we have encountered in USA
