The Project

"Project 48" is a common project of 2 aviation friends who plan to fly a single engine airplane on Visual Flight Rules (VFR) across the USA, and to land it at least once at each and every one of the 48 contiguous states of the USA.

In order to enjoy Project 48 as much as possible, we have decided to divide the whole trip in 2 parts.

The first part, Project 48/1 took place from  September 19 until October 8, 2012.
It started in the Dallas,TX area, took us northbound into Minneapolis, MN, west across to Seattle, WA, southbound to California, and then east again back to Texas. The actual detailed route is available on the "The 2012 Flight" page.

We zig-zagged on our route to make sure we stop at least once in every state.
Weather has been EXCELLENT all the way, a very unusual situation as far as my flying experience goes. We have been SOOOOO lucky.
WE touched down on 20 states, exactly as planned.

Project 48/2 will take place in 2013, most probably 2nd half September and 1st half October.

For this 1st part of the Project 48, we flew a Cessna 172SP similar to the one shown here.

During this cross country adventure, we met many of our american and USA based friends, although we missed a few for different reasons. We also met many new friends.

This Project48USA is not a race or a competition, it is about having fun while flying slow and low over this vast country and watch from above its colors, geographies, lansdcapes, dimensions and diversities.

While we travelled across the western part of the USA, we have updated this Blog with photos and anecdotes. Enjoy...
