Lars takes us to his friend John, a resident of the airpark. He has 3 hangars just adjacent to the airpark, where he keeps a collection of 35 automobiles, something quite extraordinary. Furthermore, he built a own race track on his property, visible on the upper part of the photo below. He does time races with is car on this track, one car at a time, the winner pays dinner.
We had the privilege of visiting one hangar, where we could see the different cars below.
There are many more cars in the other 2 hangars
John explaining the characteristics of one of his many cars. The first car you see here is a 1952 Alfa Romeo Giulia SS model
They are all 100% ready to drive, all have license plates and are insured
Outside, one of his employees was washing 2 beauties
The main hangar, and the 2 others in the background
We go to VeroBeach for a swim, on the way we stop at the INEOS plant, where vegetal waste is pilled up awaiting processing
Refueling the car is a complicated matter, the rules are never ending. I wonder if anyone ever reads them
Back at Indian River, Lars takes us on his Willies for a tour of the 54 houses surrounding the airfield
We visit some of his neighbor friends and have the chance to have a look into their hangars. This house is the only one on the field which has a hangar built in (actually under) the living part of the house. You step down from the living room into your hangar, turn the Master switch "ON", and off you are with your airplane
There are a few small lakes on the property, as well as a tennis court.
Time to continue and fly our VERY LAST leg from Indian River FL to Bartow FL, where we started the 2nd leg of Project48USA. Lars is taking a photo while we taxi out from the garden to the runway. (the whole taxi distance was about 100 ft, (30 meters!)
On the roll for take off on Rwy 17, Lars waiving goodbye to us in front of his hangar
This is a short flight, we see orange groves and swamps on our way "home"
We land on Rwy 27R, our last landing of the Project
On the ground, we refill the bird
and shake hands for a successful finalization of the Project
Bill has kindly left his truck at the airport, we walk over, get the truck from the parking lot, load our
stuff and drive "home". Watch the nice sunset and our long shades on the tarmac.
On the way home, we stop at Publix, the supermarket, and buy dinner which we grill on the barbecue in the garden. We can't stop wondering at the overweight folks
